Hot time in Racine town

When the winter in Milwaukee gets this cold, none of us needs a nudge to migrate south.
Maybe Racine isn’t far enough, but this week it has plenty of comedy to warm you from within.
The event is Comedy Xtravaganza. It’s showcasing some of our favorite laugh mongers, including (with help from Facebook):
  • Erik Koconis – “For over a decade he has delighted audiences with his stand up and improv comedy and most recently as the host of the Comedy Conclave podcast series. His fast paced mix of eccentric observations, personal stories and topical impersonations have made him a favorite where ever he goes.”
  • Ryan Lowe– “is guaranteed to be highly entertaining and very likely to leave spectators feeling the mental equivalent of walking around all day with their underpants on backwards.”
  • Stacy Pawlowski – “brings the thunder and sometime (if you’re lucky) the lightening. Stacy has been doing stand up, sketch and improv comedy for over 15 years. She has performed at Wisconsin State Fair, ComedySportz and Jokerz Comedy Club.”
  • Greg Bach– “your MC for the evening. He has been performing improv, standup and sketch comedy since 2007. He has performed at Sherman Perk, Karma Lounge, ComedySportz and the Alchemist Theatre.”

It’s happening at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 23 at the Envi Ultra Lounge, 316 Main St., in Racine.
The good news: It’s free.
The bad news: Seating is limited.

Levity rules

Gravity is a natural force that brings us down. The clownish comedy of Avner Eisenberg has the power to lift us.

Eisenberg, as Avner the Eccentric, displays his “Exceptions to Gravity” show at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 25, at the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center, 910 15th Ave., in South Milwaukee.

From the publicity release: “A master of the art of physical comedy, Avner weaves a spell of poetic simplicity in a show of hilarious predicaments.”

In addition to appearances on and off Broadway with his anti-gravity show, Avner played other noteworthy roles over the years, including “The Jewel” in the 1985 adventure comedy “The Jewel of the Nile.”

Tickets to his South Milwaukee performance range from $9 to $33. For more information, please go to
