Economics of T.I.M.

Economics 101 tells you it’s all about supply and demand. As public demand for a show exceeds the number of seats in the theater, then the show can charge more for the tickets and still expect to have a full house.

The Improvised Musical – 7:30 pm Thursday, April 16

Closing in on four years of monthly shows, The Improvised Musical (T.I.M.) is still performing on the second Thursday of each month at ComedySportz, 420 S. 1st St. And it’s still charging only $5 admission for reserved tickets (Call 414-272-8888 weekdays.).

However, if you’re expecting to waltz in on a whim and get seated for these spontaneously creative and musical comedies, you’ll have to pay a 40% premium: $7 per ticket at the door. Because more than enough Milwaukeeans already know that this is an event to experience, that’s why.

From Facebook:

Milwaukee’s only fully improvised musical brings you a musical that you will only see that night and never again! Based only on an audience suggestion for a title of a musical that has never been made before, 7 cast members, a live 6 piece band, and a light designer bring you a Broadway-style musical totally off the cuff.

T.I.M. shows have been selling out. So the folks at T.I.M. (who know economics, obviously) decided earlier this year that after more than three years of requiring only $5 (for an hour-long show), it can afford to tag on an extra charge for latecomers.

Let that be a lesson to you: It pays to plan ahead.
