Jacob Bach, veteran ComedySportz improviser and theater major, had been thinking about improvised musicals for a long time. Wouldn’t it be thrilling to be part of a musical so original that no one knows anything about it – not even the performers?
So he and Mary Baird, veteran ComedySportz administrator, put their heads together and assembled a dozen or so quick-witted singers, lucked into a three-piece band and hooked up with a seasoned lighting technician. The result: The Improvised Musical (T.I.M.)
Together, they’ve been working on format and chemistry and transitions since April. They can sing and dance their way through one well-told story – prompted by a suggestion from the audience.
T.I.M. debuts its monthly show at 8 p.m., Thursday, July 28, at 420 S. 1st St. Admission: $5.
Unlike ComedySportz, T.I.M. isn’t appropriate for all ages. But for $5, an hour-long musical is a decent value for adult entertainment. And the bar and restaurant will be open, so it can be a cheap complete date. For tickets, please call (414) 272-8888.
