We here at MilwaukeeComedy had a fun time interviewing the fine ladies of Broadminded!
‘The Broads’ as they are sometimes called, have a long history with the Milwaukee Comedy Festival. They have performed in every year of the festival since its inception in 2006, something no other comedy group has done. In those early days, you could find 7 Broadminded ladies on stage, but after performing together for a year, three of the members left for various job offers, or out of state commitments.
The remaining members, Stacy Babl, Anne Graff LaDisa, Melissa Kingston, and Megan McGee have continued the comedy together since. One reason they have all stuck together is their ability to divide the business of Broadminded, and collaborate on the comedy. “We all focus on our individual talents,” said Anne. “It’s important for each of us to bring our strengths to the table.” One strength they have as a group is writing funny sketches. As Megan said it, “It’s about finding the formula. Some sketches are carefully crafted with specific – and even precise – language. Other times, we’re just ripping on each other.” Stacy was quick to agree, ” it’s a real balance of both. We have a lot of fun.”
Not just fun, but impressive. Over the last 5 years they have written and performed more than 200 sketches. “Our moms all agree, we are constantly improving,” said Melissa. “Broadminded is a family, we love and fight just like one.”
