So here’s more on The Daily Beast ranking Milwaukee No. 7 among the funniest cities in America.
The Daily Beast used a consumer research firm to furnish survey data from 200 U.S. cities. Here’s what they looked at (and how Milwaukee responded):
- Percent of adults who self-identify as funny (Milwaukee: 24%)
- Percent of adults who watch primetime sitcoms (38%)
- Percent of adults who watch syndicated sitcoms (48%)
- Percent of adults who usually see comedy movies or romantic comedies (45%)
- Percent of adults who went to a comedy club three or more times in the past year (1.3%)
Researchers weighted each category equally, and Milwaukee landed smack between Chicago (No. 6) and 8th-ranked Detroit. Austin, Texas, was first. Madison was 20th.
Here’s the other thing. The Daily Beast includes a local punch line for each city. Milwaukee’s is:
“You know you’re from Milwaukee if you think a clean bowling shirt is appropriate attire for a wedding.”
C’mon. Really? You can do better than that.
Offer your Milwaukee punch line in the comments below. Because 24% of you thinks you’re funny. That’s why.
You know you're from Milwaukee if the Blatz you had this Pabst weekend is the reason you currently have the Schlitz.
