Friends for Laugh

When Do They, Gandalf? takes the stage with Kuribo’s Shoe, it will be even more than a ComedySportz match of improvisational wits.

The contest between two championship teams – one current, one former – of the ComedySportz Rec League will be more than just fun and games for grownups who refer to themselves collectively in terms from Tolkien and the Brothers Mario.

On Facebook, the competitors refer to this event as “the show of the century!” and “a full-on improv comedy extravaganza!”

Earlier this month, the team Do They, Gandalf? won the biggest-ever ComedySportz Rec League. Their friends, playing as Kuribo’s Shoe , took the league title about five years ago.

So what these teams are staging is a comic reunion with a referee, a live audience, and food and beverage service.

“We’re all so excited for the show, since we’ve all been friends for at least ten years – some of them longer,” says Jake Shaw, a member of Do They, Gandalf, along with Josh Lefevre, Joe Tomcheck and Andrew Kosmalski. “I’ve known Kozzy since I was about seven,” Jake says.

Kuribo’s Shoe is made up of Kesan Holt, David Lane and Joe Vella, who play professionally at ComedySportz Milwaukee. The fourth teammate, Andrew Muraszewski, is a pro in Minneapolis.

“We’ve never had the opportunity to do a professional show together before like this, and we all want to play this so we’ll remember it for years to come,” Jake says. “It’s going to be a special day for us, for our friends, and for the audience.”
