Getting there early

As autumn nips the air and stadium lights shine on high school football playoffs, some creative teens are cultivating other pursuits, including – don’t laugh – comedy.

Plenty of professional performers in the Milwaukee area got their starts via youth-oriented workshops and classes and the ComedySportz High School League, which has been around for 25 years.

Now comes a new sketch and improv group, Lights! Camera! Improv!, supervised by veteran instructor/performer Patrick Schmitz and featuring the up-and-coming talents of Joey Flegel-Mishlove, Emilie Lozier, Ben Titera and Maxwell Zupke.

The new group is performing at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Shorewood High School Studio Theatre, 1701 E. Capitol Drive. Tickets are $5 at the door, and local standup act Adam Crivello opens the show.

From the web: “Limited seating available so don’t be late.”

And keep those paper Abes handy because for $5 you can also catch Patrick Schmitz in The Improvised Musical, at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20, at 420 S. 1st St.
