Funny. I was just wondering the other day when broadminded, the all-female comedy sketch group, would have another performance. Here’s the answer: Soon. The witty quartet is preparing its next show around the title “Encyclopedia Broadtannica: complete and abridged.”
From the news release: “Broadminded has successfully written an unbiased, humor-based revision of history that will entertain everyone from the most dedicated of history buff to the historically challenged. Encyclopedia Broadtannica features historical attack ads, Greek mythology, time travel, and current events bound for the history books. The show is appropriate for ages 15 and up.”
The news release goes on to point out a bit of personal history, too. Now in its sixth year, Broadminded’s comic brain trust of Stacy Babl, Anne Graff LaDisa, Melissa Kingston and Megan McGee have written and performed more than 150 sketches, including appearances earlier this year at the Austin Sketch Festival and (as always) the Milwaukee Comedy Festival.
You can experience “Encyclopedia Broadtannica” at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, Nov. 11-12 and 18-19 with a matinee at 4 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 20. All the shows are at the Alchemist Theatre, 2569 S Kinnickinnic, Ave. Tickets are $10 and available by clicking here.
(Footnote: The title “Encyclopedia Broadtannica” is a play on the Encyclopædia Britannica, a centuries-old analog inspiration for Wikipedia and other such compendia of universal knowledge. It still exists as a series of books in many libraries – and is coming soon to iPad. Look that up in your Funk & Wagnalls!)
