Inspired by the first Thanksgiving – when welcoming Indians showed European settlers how to make Tandoori turkey and naan – cultural exchange has remained a strong part of the holiday tradition. And so it goes in the Milwaukee comedy community this week. For instance:
Wing-Ding Productions has a special Thanksgiving team trivia Game Show Night on Thanksgiving Eve at the Bay View Brew Haus, 2535 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.
From Facebook: “All the trivia rounds will be fun Thanksgiving themes! What better way to spend the night, before having to deal with a house full of relatives and family drama! Game Show Night is team trivia that is mixed with game show bonus rounds. Contestants get to compete on a set with lights, buzzers, game boards, sound effects and music for the whole show experience! Bonus rounds are played in the style of The Price Is Right, Name That Tune, Tic Tac Dough, and Family Feud! Also, every beverage you purchase will be worth bonus points for your team!”
And it’s free. Well, except the beverages. Team sizes are 3-6. Registration starts at 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 23.
Also, on Thanksgiving – following the Packers game and the pumpkin pie – you can fight off the after-dinner drowsiness by popping over to the Thanksgiving Leftovers open mic session sponsored by Caste of Killers Comedy Collective at the Art Bar Riverwest, 722 E. Burleigh St.
From the web: “When you can’t stand your annoying family another second drop on over and hangout with a group of comedy misfits who will make it all OK. Kara, our dysfunctional family bartender, will be serving up some strong drinks and there’s a special on Lakefront products.”
Signup for standups is at 8:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 24. The show begins at 9. Free admission.
