Bringing Comedy To The Stage – Part 1

Milwaukee Comedy doesn’t just love comedy, we help bring it to the stage – literally! Over three days, Milwaukee Comedy Founder Matt Kemple, with help from Chicago based Bye Bye Liver producers Matt Mattingly and Byron Hatfield and local talent Nate Press build a new stage in the ComedySportz Garage.

“I noticed the [ComedySportz] garage space needed a bit of an upgrade. Milwaukee Comedy works hard to help out the comedy scene in town in any way possible, and this was a great opportunity to do more than just help groups promote shows.” said Matt Kemple, the original visionary of the project.  Kemple worked with CSz founder Dick Chudnow to make sure the idea was adequate for his needs, as well as all the comedy groups that utilize the space on a regular basis.  “We had to build something that could be done in a short amount of time, because the garage is utilized every weekend.  It also had to be re-configurable for multiple uses.”

Here is a time-lapse of the project:

The design was conceived over a few months, and the stage itself was built in only three evenings. A backstage wall with a door, along with minor finishing touches will finish the project early next week.

The stage will be utilized by not just ComedySportz, but also Bye Bye LiverTalking Points, Meanwhile Improv, Homegrown Electric Circus and many more.
