Midweek, and the mic is open

What better way to celebrate hump day than an open mic!

A free monthly competition for local standup comics starts at 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 28, at Comedy Café, 615 E. Brady St. It’s free to participate. It’s free to see.

Here’s how it works: Eight comics compete for audience votes. The winner receives some cash and a chance to open for one of Comedy Café’s regular weekend shows.

Comedians can register for the monthly show by clicking here and emailing Damon Millard, of Caste of Killers Comedy Collective. The March show is full, but there’s a standby list of stand-ups in case any of the scheduled performers cancels or doesn’t check in by the 7:30 p.m. deadline.

Speaking of standup competitions, don’t forget about the Comedy Battle Royale for a featured slot in the 7th annual Milwaukee Comedy Festival in August. Those contests got so crowded that Milwaukee Comedy and Caste of Killers have added an extra night of battles.
