To the “King of Milwaukee Comedy”

In his blog, “Dented Can” Diary, Dobie Maxwell frequently refers to hard times coming up from Milwaukee as a nationally touring comedian.
That’s not to say Brew City didn’t have a constructive influence on him. In fact, Dobie has organized a special show to pay homage to “Milwaukee’s King of Comedy,” the late C. Cardell Willis.
It’s a one time chance to honor someone who meant a lot to me, and I want to pull it off with style and class. I’m going into it as how I would like it if someone was doing this for me,” Dobie blogged recently.
The stand-ups he has gathered for the show are coming from coast to coast and include: Chris Barnes, Brady Street, SteveDeClark, Tyrone Pierre Dumas, Richard Halasz, David Lee Hendrickson, Nola Jaye, Art Kumbalek, Chrys Lavelette, Ira Novos, Mark Shilobrit, Cliff Watson and P.M. Zych.

The show starts at 8 p.m., Sunday, April 22, at Shank Hall, 1434 N. Farwell St. Tickets are $11 with proceeds benefiting the Boy Scouts of America and the American Diabetes Association.
