Under where

Some of the coolest, funniest people I know in Milwaukee are headed to the Open Mic Under the Stairs, which starts at 8 p.m., Wednesday Sept. 12, at Karma Bar & Grill, 600 E. Ogden Ave.

It’s one of the productions of Caste of Killers Comedy Collective and reputedly one of the finest open mics in Milwaukee, an intimate venue that mutually benefits performers and audience. And it was canceled last week so that football fans could share in the NFL-arious comedy of replacement officials.

On Facebook, they call Open Mic Under the Stairs “the Laugh Trench.”

From Facebook: “For Comedians (new or old) Open Mic Under the Stairs is a great, supportive atmosphere where comics encourage other comics to grow. Take advantage of this. There’s never a need to take a comedy class; stick around after the open mic and buy your favorite comic a beer and they will spill the tricks of the trade. Network here. Get inspired to write your next huge bit here. This is the place where magic happens.”

So you can read into that if you’re not a performer. It means this is like sitting back stage at a comedy club. Not only do you catch wind of all the funniness on stage, but you pick up the inside baseball stuff of what happens among comics too.

Oh yeah, and it’s free.

Anyone who wants to perform is asked to be there by 7:30 to sign up.
