Local boy makes better

As he describes his month of Saturday shows back in Milwaukee, Dobie Maxwell is planning to deliver a comedian’s homage to his hometown.

Dobie is a nationally touring comic who grew up and started his career in Milwaukee. His show, “Schlitz Happened! An Old Milwaukee Blatz From The Pabst” is the culmination of living here, leaving here and coming to terms with forever being from Milwaukee.

“I spent more than a quarter of a century of my life trying to escape my Milwaukee past.” Dobie says in a release. “But I learned the hard way that the farther away I went, the closer my past stayed with me the whole time. It was ME that needed the changing. I’ve done that.”
Since he started performing in Milwaukee in 1985, Dobie has worked his craft and crafted his work, from college campuses to cruise ships. His credits includeappearances on “The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson” and nationally syndicated radio programs such as “The Bob and Tom Show.”
His latest Milwaukee gig starts Saturday, April 6, and runs each Saturday through April 27at the Northern Lights Theater in Potawatomi Bingo Casino, 1721 W. Canal St. Shows are at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. and cost $20 via (800) 745-3000 or ticketmaster.com.
“There’s a lot to laugh at,” Dobie writes, “and I think others who know Milwaukee and even those who don’t will laugh too. It’s a look back, but also a look forward. This is a story with a happy ending!”
