Homegrown Robby McGhee

You knew it was only a matter of time before someone started exploiting the celebrity of Robby McGhee.

T.I.M., The Improvised Musical, glommed onto Robby last year and made him a regular cast member. Patrick Schmitz cast Robby in his original play “The Comedy Kid,” in June and then gave Robby his directorial debut in July’s Sketch 22.

And then there’s that woman at the Brewers games who has taken Robby’s seat and made herself up to look like Robby to attract attention.

Now Homegrown Electric Circus is featuring Robby as a “special guest” in its next improv show, at 8 p.m., Friday, July 27, at 420 S. 1st St.

Call them opportunists or marketing geniuses, but the folks at Homegrown know how to create funny stories from thin air. Having Robby on stage with them certainly won’t hurt their show. We’re not sure how much admission is. It’s usually $5 at the door. Maybe they’ll try charging extra to cash in on Robby.

You don’t have to wait another month to see Homegrown Electric Circus. They’re among the local talent featured in the seventh annual Milwaukee Comedy Festival, which runs Aug. 3-11 at the Next Act Theatre space, 255 S. Water St. Homegrown is in the 7:30 p.m. show on Sunday, Aug. 5. Check out the schedule.
