Return of The Nerd

Larry Shue (right), an actor and playwright who died in a plane crash at age 39, is best known for his farces “The Nerd” and “The Foreigner” – both of which premiered at the Milwaukee Repertory Theater.
Although not a native of Milwaukee, Shue had worked at the Milwaukee Rep on his way to international prominence, and his papers are archived at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. So with those local connections in place, Milwaukee’s Soulstice Theatre is staging “The Nerd” beginning Friday, Nov. 4, through Saturday, Nov. 19.

From the web: “From the brilliant comic mind who brought us The Foreigner, Milwaukee native (sic) Larry Shue weaves the tale of a young architect who is visited by a man he has never met but who saved his life in Vietnam. The visitor turns out to be an incredibly inept, hopelessly stupid nerd who outstays his welcome with a vengeance. But, as is often the case, people are not always quite what they seem…and hilarity ensues.”

Soulstice Theatre is at 3770 S. Pennsylvania Ave., in St. Francis. Tickets are $18, $16 for students and seniors, and $10 for children younger than 10.
