Hold your liquor

Way back in 2006, when the Milwaukee Comedy Festival first was getting started, the Pub Theater Company opened a weekly sketch comedy show in Chicago that toasted the quaint local custom of drinking. Of course, that tradition is not peculiar to the Second City. So in February 2010, the show Bye Bye Liver spilled over to Milwaukee – and it’s been playing here every Saturday night ever since.

“The city of Milwaukee has really embraced Bye Bye Liver since its opening,” according to Josh Dunkin and Nate Press. “Like any long-running show, we’ve seen our share of ups and downs, big crowds and little crowds, but we’ve always tried to maintain a standard of quality that represents the high standards set by those in the community who have come before us. Finally being able to rub elbows and share the stage with those artists in this festival ranks among the highest thrills we have had the pleasure to experience here in Milwaukee.”

You can catch Bye Bye Liver: The Milwaukee Drinking Play on Day 2 of the Comedy Fest, in the 10 p.m. slot, Friday, Aug. 5, at ComedySportz, 420 S. 1st St. Other local acts in the same set that night include the stand-up comedy by Beth Lewinski (voted best actress in Milwaukee in 2010 by the readers of the Shepherd Express) and the dynamic improv duo, Al & Jim’s One Man Show.
