Class, Status

Turf Theater has announced a couple of workshops to enhance the performance of comedy actors and wannabes.

Eric Price, whose credits include “Mad TV,” “Reno 911,” and “Chelsea Lately,” will be teaching two one-day workshops on long-form improv and various formats, including The Harold. From the web:

“He will also teach editing skills such as tag-outs, wipes, revolving doors, openers and finding the ‘GAME of the scene.’ The focus of the workshop will be on expanding the possibilities of different formats and styles of play to broaden up-and-coming and seasoned veterans of improv comedy.”

The workshops are form 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, July 30, and Sunday, July, 31. The fee for each is $50. Eric is a Milwaukeean who left his mark on ComedySportz, The Midnight Show, and the Dead Alewives before moving to Los Angeles in 2007. He’s back in town for the workshops as well as performances July 29-31 (If you know where, let us know.).

Also at Turf, Brainne Edge is running a workshop on using status in scene work. Brainne is founder of the United Kingdom division of ComedySportz and a lecturer at the University of Salford, in Manchester. That workshop runs $15 and is from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, July 30. From the web:

“In this workshop we will explore status. We will look at what status you prefer to play and how we can expand on that in order to create new characters and interesting stories and scene dynamics. This workshop is designed to play both within and out of your comfort zone; prepare to have fun and be challenged. Please be aware, I will pronounce the word status as ‘stay-tus’, just so it doesn’t confuse anyone.”
