Sunday afternoon. Middle of May. Thinking leisurely day off and nicer weather, right? Think again. Try challenging your mind in a classroom and learning a game called “Freeze.”
Turf Theater is offering a two-hour class on the improvisational comedy game. That’s the one where a scene is building, someone yells, “Freeze,” all the actors stop where they are, and somebody comes on stage to enter a whole new scene.
The instructor is Milwaukee comedy veteran Rich Laguna, who has about a decade at ComedySportz, the home of Turf Theater.
From the Web: “Theater games are incredibly useful in classrooms, to motivate kids and for those interested in honing their acting and improv skills. Always wanted to try improv? Here’s your chance.”
The class runs from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, May 15, at ComedySportz, 420 S. 1st St. Fee: $10.
And here’s another Turf Theater class. Dick Chudnow, co-founder of ComedySportz (which has just opened yet another franchise, in Richmond, Va.) is scheduled to teach the improv game “What Are You Doing?” from 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday, May 22. Same place. Same price.
