We saw the signs outside the building. Now it’s in the news media. So it must be true.
Milwaukee’s Comedy Café is moving.
The club, formerly known as JD’s Comedy Café , has scheduled a June 20 finale for its venue at 615 E. Brady St.
After 27 years, the Comedy Café is moving to the second floor of Tutto, at 1033 N. Old World Third St.
According to the cafe’s website, the first show at its new location will be July 16.
From the website:
Comedic legends such as Tommy Chong, Pam Stone, Judy Tenuta, Bill Maher, Joey Kola, Bobby Collins, Drew Carey, Rita Rudner, Ellen DeGeneres, Tommy Davidson, Elayne Boosler, George Lopez, Andrew Dice Clay, George Wallace, Ron White, Tim Allen, Bobcat Goldthwait and many more have all graced the stage.
For two decades this venue has been consistently rated as one of the best comedy clubs in the country.
The Milwaukee Business Journal reports that the owner of Comedy Café also owns Tutto and has decided the foot traffic for the Comedy Café will be better in the new location. Plus, the owner’s family is fixing to redo the Italian restaurant downstairs and rename it Giovanni’s. The owner plans to lease out the Brady Street location after the move, according to the article by Alison Bauter.
An earlier account from OnMilwaukee.com noted that Comedy Café will be moving into the Notte Night Lounge, which drew some foot traffic from Milwaukee Police in recent months.
With plans for developing a snazzy new entertainment district around the proposed Milwaukee Bucks arena on the north end of Milwaukee’s downtown, Comedy Café’s move could put it right in the thick of the action.
