Milwaukee’s premier long-form improvisational comedy quartet has a special treat for its monthly first-Friday show.
Instead of performing, as usual, at the Farina Arena of ComedySportz, Tall Boys is making a second consecutive appearance at the Milwaukee Comedy Festival.
Tall Boys – 8 p.m. show, Friday, Aug. 7
“The Tall Boys are really happy to celebrate the growth and strength of the comedy scene in Milwaukee. The Tall Boys are proud to be from Milwaukee, and what better way to showcase that than to be a part of the largest and kicking comedy festival in Wisconsin!” says James Boland, one of the boys. “It also is a great way to network with other comedians from around the country and to have new audiences be exposed to our work.”
Named for the fact that each of them measures higher than six feet, Tall Boys has been performing together more than two years, but individually, they have decades of collective comedy experience – in all forms.
Besides James, the Tall Boys include Erik Koconis, Robby McGhee, and Lee Rowley. They also employ seasoned improviser Jared Stepp as guru.
Asked to describe what audiences should expect to see from Tall Boys, James said:
“We perform a classic Harold form where we get a word from the audience and explore the suggestion through games (word association, monologues and song) and create scenes that tell a larger story. The games and the scenes blend together to create almost a one-act play. People should be prepared to laugh first and foremost. The Tall Boys love connecting with the audience and sharing in the fun of the show.”
Having been around the Milwaukee comedy scene awhile, the Tall Boys consider the Comedy Fest a “consistent fixture” that not only anchors a community where comedians often develop and move on but also brings together out-of-town performers and local audiences.
In an effort to build a bigger better long-form improv scene in Milwaukee, the Tall Boys and Jared have begun Mojo Dojo Comedy, a training center for long-form improve. More on that later.
Meantime, after performing in the 2015 Milwaukee Comedy Fest, Tall Boys will be strutting their funny stuff in Austin, Texas, in September at the Out of Bounds Comedy Festival.
